Dena Ford smashes 100 mile TT even with bad cramp attack!

Great result for HWCCs Dena Ford at the 100m TT last weekend! Read the report here:

Riding the E2/100 Course near Newmarket meant an early morning rise, a 5.13 am start time resulted in a stopover at a local hotel and an alarm call of 3.45, finally arriving at the event HQ for 4.45am.

The weather was mild and the wind was still, so an ideal day for a PB; Dena’s previous PB was 4hrs 27mins and she was very motivated to do better after an attempt last year was cancelled due to rain.

After a measured start, Dena eased up the power and at mid point was well ahead of schedule with a time of 2hrs 1mins at 50 miles.

Taking on water and a combination of gels/banana and malt loaf at intervals of between 15 and 30 miles to try and keep the dehydration at bay. The first unpractised food handover almost resulted in a fall when the handover from the jogging support almost unbalanced the rider, phew lucky escape a lesson learned.

At 65miles the complaints started; it was becoming more difficult from this point, at 75 miles the face was becoming more pinched and through gritted teeth she fought to 90 miles.

With 10 miles remaining here it came; the cramp, screeches of pain and free wheeling for periods of 10-20 metres to try and massage the pain away, then with 2 miles to go finally able to turn the legs freely to the finish.

The finish time of 4.10:43 was a PB by approximately 17 minutes, but could have been so much faster

We’re pretty excited about what Dena could do minus cramp and minus almost being knocked off by her helper 😉
