Turbo Training starts on Wednesday 8th January at West Wycombe Village Hall – then continues on Wednesdays for 12 weeks. Sign on from 6.45 pm onwards. £5.00 per session.
This is a programme aimed at significantly increasing your ‘on the bike’ fitness. The weekly sessions will follow a structured and progressive programme based on proven sports science research which is designed to improve both endurance and high end bike fitness. By following a consistent and structured programme with commitment and motivation you can expect to make significant gains in performance. Inconsistency and lack of structure in your training are amongst your biggest enemies and, inevitably, lead to stagnation and even loss of form. The sessions will start at a measured pace but, by weeks four and five, they will start to become uncompromisingly hard as your fitness improves. Up to a point you can turbo train effectively in your own at home if you’ve got the right mindset, but the motivation, support and cameraderie of a weekly group session will help to move you up to another level. These sessions will complement TrainerRoad or Zwift sessions, plus your weekend endurance work, to give a full profile to your training needs.
Gordon Wright has coached riders to Olympic, Worlds and National podiums. He was a British Cycling accredited coach at the Athens Olympic training camp in Cyprus in 2004, the Word Cycling Championships in Valkenburg in 1998 and the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002, plus other major national and international events. Over the years, the knowledge gained from working with riders and other coaches at this high level has trickled down through to the club. His coaching at an individual level is now quite restricted, but he still closely follows the sports science literature and in the last three years has extensively researched aspects of nutritional support for mature athletes, especially the use of proteins.
